Safe Harbor Procedure for Employers that Receive a No-Match Letter
By Michael K. Brown The federal government is planning a massive crackdown on businesses that hire illegal immigrants. It appears that No-Match letters sent by Social Security will be used as leads in investigating companies that allegedly hire illegal workers. Businesses will be required to re-verify employee's documents and complete a new I-9 form, or decide whether to terminate workers who have a discrepancy in their tax record, if the employee cannot satisfactorily resolve an SSNVS issue within 90 days. Employers will have 30 days to check records, and 90-93 days to resolve problems resulting from a No-Match. Businesses that are found to be noncompliant could face fines ranging from $250 to $10,000. Technology Solutions: W4 & SSNVS "Real Time" Verifications Amerisearch Background Alliance has the ability to let our clients input W4 documents for their employees and, in the process, obtain "real time" automatic SSNVS verifications. I have attached a copy of the details signed off by Michael Chertoff secretary of HLS. As always, if you have any question please do not hesitate to contact me.
